Tokyo Game Show 2026 Cancels Last Public Day Due To Incoming Typhoon

The Tokyo Game Show is currently underway, but the last extra public day will be canceled due to projections of an incoming typhoon.

Specifically, Typhoon No. 25 is likely to hit the Kanto region on Monday, and as the Tokyo Game Show is held way out in Makuhari in Chiba, it's likely that the area will bear the brunt of the incoming tropical cyclone.

Previously, the Tokyo Game Show normally had only two business days followed by two public days. However, due to the massive increase in attendees over the past few years, CESA decided to add an extra day to the public part.

So it's a real shame that eager Japanese gamers can't attend the last day of Tokyo Game Show this Monday. Especially since a bunch of additional national holidays start on Monday, colloquially referred to as Silver Week.

Having been to this year's Tokyo Game Show on Thursday, it's clear that console games are back in a big way and many of those games are being made in Japan, or at least using Japanese intellectual property.

As with all things to do with the weather, typhoons can be very unpredictable, and it may transpire that Typhoon No. 25 doesn't reach Tokyo on Monday and hits the region later in the week, or even not at all.

That said, this is an especially powerful typhoon, and I agree with CESA's caution on this matter, as being caught outside in the middle of a raging typhoon is no joke.

Consequently, today will mark the last day of this year's Tokyo Game Show.
